events-coincidence-fate-decisions-and everything in between.
Think about your life and everything that has happened so far to make you what you are now. Now think of a particular event that’s significant to you, what if it never happened? It’s entirely possible. We all read about fatal traffic accidents that occur between two drivers everyday and I think to myself.. what if the man that was driving forgot his keys while heading out the door thus shaving a couple minutes off his commute, this would have changed the whole sequence of events that proceeds and would probably make that particular accident un-happen per se. But no, strings of specific events happened to the second that caused the accident.
I’ve been thinking about this idea for quite some time now but the conversation at the dinner table tonight drove me to finally post about it. We were talking about our family and how we got situated in Vancouver. It basically all revolved around my father, when he was 18 he left his family in China to go study in England. This was also the time he met my mother. Then stuff happened and he ended up in Vancouver. Because of my dad, my grandparents and my two uncles were able to immigrate to Canada from China.(immigration laws, not too familiar. Just roll with it) Now, if my dad did not decide to venture away from his home to study abroad, my dad, grandparents, etc. would probably be still living in the small village in China. Hell, he wouldn’t have even met my mom in England which would mean I wouldn’t be sitting here on my ass writing about this since I wouldn’t have been born at all.
I believe that everything happens for a reason to a certain extent (whether it be good or bad), you may not know it now but a small decision you make right now may greatly change the future.
this makes sense right?
Religion
copied and pasted from an old post of mine, only because I want this under this series and I don’t want to write another spiel on religion. so without further ado..
I don’t see what the big debate is about. At the core of it, religion is a belief and everyone is entitled to one. You believe that the world was created by God, that’s fine. You believe that the world was created by God (with a different name), that’s fine. You don’t believe there is a God, that’s fine too. But don’t force your own beliefs on other people when they already have their own to begin with. It’s like going “hey, I know you think PB&J sandwiches are the best but you are totally wrong because me, and plenty of other people think ham sandwiches are the best and there’s even a book written about it, now come with me to a building on sunday where you will learn all about ham sandwiches and why they are scrum-diddly-umptious.” Respect all religions, people. because underneath all that negative publicity on the news, those religions have teachings that are actually good (what?? =O no way). Be it Christians and the Bible or Muslims and the Qur’an, written in there are values to live your life as a better person and to make the world a better place. It’s those few extremists that fudge it up for everyone. yeah, I don’t even know what I’m talking about anymore, why did I even start writing about this… ah well, here’s a picture of a baby giraffe.
Life after death.
We view life as a game. We start our game, as a young inexperienced thing and as we grow older we gain needed experience to “level up” per se, all the while you have choices to make to be good or bad. once you’ve beaten your game, there will be a bonus stage waiting for you, and what this bonus stage will be like for you all depends on how good or how bad you have been during your whole playthrough of the game (someone show me a scale that judges good/bad please). and that’s how I was scared into Christianity when I was younger, basically I was told, if I’m a bad person and I don’t believe in Jesus, I’m going to fucking hell where demons will torture you with fire and eat your donuts that YOU bought. OR you could be a good christian and be forever happy living in the land of clouds eating all the donuts you want. Of course as six year old me, I wanted my donuts. But I’m delving too deep into religion and that’s something for another time (oooooo #5 maybe?).
back to the notion of life after death. I personally don’t know where I stand on this, it’s such a trivial thing to think or worry about during our short lifespan. If there isn’t an afterlife, oh well. I’ll happily decompose in my grave. If there is, well that’s cool, I wouldn’t mind wandering the earth as a ghost or chilling up in heaven with the angels or even being reincarnated as a cockroach. The thing is, there’s just some things in life that are unexplainable, we all have our own hypotheses but why spoil the surprise? I know when my seconds are ticking down and I’m lying on my deathbed I’ll be anxiously waiting for the answer to the biggest question of life.
extraterrestrials.
before I start let me emphasize that I’m not one of those crazy alien enthusiasts or anything like that, I’m just putting together the little I know and using my own logic to fill in the rest.
well, let’s start with what we know from countless sci-fi movies, extraterrestrials are, quite simply, lifeforms that are not from planet earth. now I know I’ll get some flak from all you religious folks but why are we so quick to say these lifeforms don’t exist?
now let’s get astronomical up in this bitch for a moment. so planet earth is one planet out of 8 in our solar system circling the sun (sorry pluto) and we just so happen to have all the necessary resources to support life. now the sun, at the core of it, is a star. Our galaxy (the Milky Way) let’s say has 400 billion stars in total (give or take a couple hundred billion. who knows, I aint counting that crap). so let’s just assume every star in our galaxy alone has the same amount of planets as our sun, well that’s what? 3.2 trillion planets? (3,200,000,000,000). Now answer me this, what are the chances that Earth is the ONLY planet that can sustain life out of those hypothetical 3.2 trillion other planets out there in our galaxy alone, well if I’m only looking at numbers here, the chances are pretty darn slim if you ask me.
but that 3.2 trillion was only OUR galaxy though.. let’s say there are 400 billion galaxies in the universe, and assuming on average each galaxy would have around the same number of stars/planets/etc, then our total planet count would be… (3,200,000,000,000 x 400,000,000,000) which, on my computer’s calculator, gives me 1.28e+24 which in simple terms means a heck of a lot of planets.
if you don’t feel like reading all that bullshit up there, basically what I’m saying is, universe big. planets lots. aliens likely.
oh yeah guys, feel free to give me your opinion on this subject, disagree, agree, tell me I’m stoopeed, or suggest another topic for me to talk about in my next installment, once again I’m not claiming that I know errthang bout shit, dis iz jus mah own thoughts n thinkin on subjectz. oh lawd, blackness takin ova, gotta end it here befo I ruin dis post arghhaghharhg
I’m going to take Einstein’s theory of relativity as an influence on this one and say, what if when we move, it’s not us who is moving but everything around us adjusting to what we do. so say you’re walking towards a house, the house is actually moving towards you instead. the galaxies, stars, planets.. everything is moving relative to you. when you turn your head, it’s your surroundings which are adjusting to your actions.
in a sense, you are the centre of the universe.
sometimes I wonder what would become of me if I was never born. I know what you’re thinking, “James! you’re an idiot, if you were never born you wouldn’t even exist!” well, I’m not talking about the physical me but me as in my mind and soul. If I hadn’t been born in the body that I’m in now.. would my mind and everything that makes me me on the inside be born through another body? so maybe instead of lanky asian james, there would be a big black man named Tyrone or a timid little german boy named Gunter but my mind would be the exact same, it would be me on the inside. do you guys get what I’m saying or is it just too far out? I don’t know, I often find myself thinking of these kinds of things, usually late at night. maybe somewhere in the realm of reality there is a big room filled with unique individual souls and every time someone is born, one of the souls gets chosen to occupy that body and brand new identities are being created or maybe even recycled from the deceased to fill up that big room once more, but that would get into the afterlife and that’s another thought for another night.
